You Don't Need Every Accessory Out There

The table saw is one of the most useful and versatile tools which you can purchase for your workshop. If you have been working with yours for a while it is easy to fall into a rut and only use it for familiar tasks while forgetting the much greater potential it has especially with the add on of additional accessories. You do not, however, need to rush out and buy every accessory on the market. It depends on what you use your table saw for and the degree of accuracy and sophistication you require. Some accessories can be considered almost essential though particularly when it comes to safety which after all should be your primary consideration.
Therefore, priority should be given to safety accessories such as push pads and sticks to protect your fingers, featherboards and a safety power switch which can be operated with just a flick or a bump enabling you to hold cuts steady right to the finish.

Another accessory which is often overlooked but which can make life so much easier is a sawdust collector. This can be a simple pouch which can also be connected up to a vac resulting in a portable system which will be economical to buy but around 90% effective at collecting all the sawdust.

For the most professional results, you will need a premium quality saw blade which can make all the difference to the end product. If budget is a consideration, go for a good all round blade like a combination and add other blades such as a dado blade when finances will allow. Before you know it your collection will enable you to tackle any sort of job.

An aftermarket miter guage will also be a wise investment. Fence clamps, jigs and extension tables can all transform your humble table saw into a professional woodworking tool capable of turning out products you can be proud of.

Always make sure that any accessory you buy will fit your table saw and is sturdy, durable and accurate. The standard accessories included with your table saw are often a disappointment and aftermarket add ons can significantly improve the quality and accuracy and ease of use of your table saw. Many manufacturers assume that people are going to customise their table saws with accessories purchased after and added on. Accessories are also widely available and therefore can be cheap and economical to buy. There is a huge choice and variety so do some research beforehand and save yourself both time and headaches.
